Midsummer is upon us. In Sweden the summer solstice is a big deal. People eat, dance and party, and in the North we enjoy the midnight sun – or lack of darkness. Only above the Arctic Circle is the sun (hopefully) visible all through the night.
I love this time of year. It seems like all the fun is still ahead of us. Summer has just begun, and we are eagerly awaiting sunny weather and warmer temperatures.
Midsummer can be a frosty business. I remember that time I actually wore my winter jacket. It was +13 degrees, and maybe colder in the night, but we are vikings. We stayed outside. No such thing as too cold…
It’s been a long time since I danced around the maypole, but this is the beginning of summer. We’d better pay attention and enjoy every moment.
Happy Solstice, and “Glad midsommar”.
